Welcome to the Almighty Rod, home of Lee Koch's split bamboo fly rods.
On March 7, 2010, we held the first-ever Nebraska Rodmakers Gathering here at my shop in Lincoln See the blog (above) for notes on the event, and a few photos. Thanks everyone, for comingI I enjoyed meeting people, and spending some time casting and talking bamboo rods - Lee
The name for this website started as a bit of a joke, but as with all good jokes, there was a kernel of truth behind it. The true kernel in this case is that I do indeed prefer "almighty rods": bamboo fly rods that combine power and finesse, resiliency and suppleness. Not all rods fit this bill (far from it!), and it's a constant process of discovery and experimentation to develop tapers and geometries that lead to rods that feel light in the hand, with a delicate touch in close, and the power to reach out when needed. I look for tapers that have some kind of "magic" built into them, whether that means a small rod that reaches out farther than expected, or a long rod that is lighter in the hand than expected, or a rod that "casts itself" over a long day of fishing.
Here's my latest rod, almost done - 3-piece 8-foot 5-weight. I've just lawn-cast it, but I'm thinking this is going to be a nice one!
On this site there is a photo gallery of rods (a sort of highlight of rods I've liked) and a list of shop rods I currently have on hand. There will be a page of accessories I sometimes offer for sale, and a link to my fishing blog.
Enjoy,
Lee
